Compost
Anyone have any suggestions for starting a compos bin/area etc? I feel so overwhelmed and would like to get one up and going this spring.

I'm not sure how much space you have. I made ours using salvaged pallets. I found the instructions and pictures on how to do it all on www.instructables.com. Very simple and very helpful. If you need to make something smalleryou will probably find several different types on there. I use egg shells, veg and fruit scraps, coffee grinds, and leaves and grass clippings from the yard. No meat or bread. You don't want those in your compost. Let me know how it goes!
I highly recommend trying vermicomposting, composting with worms. It's really easy, quite fast, and is easy to do in an urban setting. I can't do bin composting in my neighborhood (too many rats get into it-gross, I know-and the neighbors freak out). But a worm bin! I can keep in my apartment, it doesn't smell at all, and I get 3 or 4 good sized harvests of vermicompost a year. Just an idea...they're really easy!
